What’s On this Easter at Hull Truck Theatre

Are you on the hunt for some entertainment this Easter? Look no further as Hull Truck Theatre present a huge variety of work this April. From comedians to thrilling drama’s, musical theatre and a selection of film screenings. Hull Truck Theatre are excited to invite audiences for a hilarious and unpredictable month of holiday fun.

Kids off school and in need of entertainment? Join the Play in a Week programme where any young person aged 7-11 can get involved to create a brand-new play. At the end of the week, they will get to perform it to friends and family. The project takes place Monday 7th April to Friday 11th April 2025, 9am – 3.30pm, every day at Hull Truck Theatre.

There is even more entertainment for children this April with live shows such as The Gruffalo Live on stage (Friday 4 - Sunday 6 April), Northern Academy of Performing Arts performance of the musical Annie (Wednesday 09 - Sat 12 April) and a brand new, board-game style theatre show where your skills are needed to solve a thrilling murder mystery with The Mystery of Hull Truck Theatre (Wednesday 16 - Thu 17 April).

Audiences looking for a good night out are spoilt for choice this Easter. The Edinburgh Fringe smash-hit …Earnest? (Tuesday 1 April) arrives at Hull Truck Theatre following rave reviews ahead of an eagerly awaited West End run. This one-of-a-kind comedy sensation is completely different, completely chaotic, and completely Wilde every single night. Moth (Wednesday 2 April) share’s the story of John, a black British activist and journalist and Marius, a white South African ex-soldier, in a thriller that deals with war, race, the legacy of history, the power of our actions, the quest for redemption and the limits of forgiveness. Now at Low Availability, Hull favourite John Shuttleworth returns with Raise the Oof (Wednesday 2 April). Back with more hilarious stories and songs performed on his trusty Yamaha organ (with built-in auto accompaniment!) join John, as he celebrates 40 years in showbiz. For fans of Jurassic Park, Hold On To Your Butts (Tuesday 15 – Wednesday 16 April) is a must see “shot-for-shot” parody of the greatest dinosaur film of all time. After selling out in New York and at the Edinburgh Festival, you will want to RUN to get those tickets…before they go extinct!

Sit back and relax at Hull Truck Screen for a selection of Film nights in partnership with Hull Independent Cinema: The Brutalist (Saturday 5 April), The Contestant (Tuesday 8 April), and The People’s Joker (Saturday 12 April). Audiences can also catch live screenings of both Royal Ballet Opera’s, Turandot (Tuesday 1 April) and National Theatre’s Dr Strangelove (Thursday 3 April). 

Other events and opportunities in April include Thursday Theatre Club (Thursday 3 April) where you can join actor and facilitator Jack Fielding for an introductory session on Forum Theatre, an applied theatre technique created by Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal to empower marginalised communities. 

There are some spaces still available for two out of the three Introduction To…. courses left. Introduction to History of Theatre (Tuesday 22 April) is an opportunity to learn more about the origins of theatre through this 6-week introductory course, designed specifically for adults aged 18+, led by Hull Truck Theatre’s Associate Director Tom Saunders. Whether you’re interested in performing on the stage or screen, or just want to raise your confidence, Introduction to Acting (Tuesday 22 April) gives budding performers a chance to learn more about how professional actors hone their craft in this six-week long course, designed specifically for adults (18+). Led by actor Peter McMillian.
