Two Ridings Community Foundation launches Emergency Community Response Fund in Hull

6 August 2024

In response to the recent acts of violence, destruction, intimidation and racism that occurred over the weekend, Two Ridings Community Foundation has launched an emergency fund to provide immediate support to community groups across Hull.

Two Ridings Community Foundation has been deeply saddened by the weekend’s events, which have impacted Hull and other parts of the country. The foundation recognises that these acts will have both short and long-term consequences for communities, including disruption, economic hardship, fear, and a loss of trust. The most vulnerable residents are likely to be the hardest hit.

Volunteers who assisted with the clean-up on Sunday morning demonstrated the city’s resilience, solidarity and the power of community. Their efforts are a testament to Hull’s strengths and resources, which will be crucial in the ongoing efforts to create thriving, connected communities and allow healing to begin.

The Hull Emergency Community Response Fund will operate throughout August, and the fund will run on a rolling basis, providing immediate crisis response activities. The fund will cover:

  • Extended opening hours for Community Hubs (e.g., for drop-ins)
  • Enhanced safety measures to enable community participation
  • Convening conversations in response to recent events
  • Immediate costs of clean-up and repairs to community property or assets

For longer-term responses, community groups are encouraged to apply to the Hull Community Fund. The deadline for applications to that Fund is Monday 2nd September. Full details on how to apply are available on the foundation’s website.

In addition to these immediate steps, Two Ridings will continue to listen to community groups at the forefront of these efforts to ensure responsiveness to evolving needs and opportunities. Through their HEY Confident Futures leadership programme, a leadership network across the voluntary and cultural sectors, the foundation will explore opportunities for dialogue and action in response to recent events.

Two Ridings Community Foundation stated, “Funds like this are vital as impacted communities begin to heal and repair the damage caused. They cover unexpected and essential costs of responding to recent events. Every donation makes a difference, and we invite anyone who wants to contribute to the Fund to do so via our website.”
