Tranby announce the appointment of Mr Chris Wainman as new Headteacher

30 January 2025

Tranby are extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Chris Wainman as Headteacher of Tranby to succeed Mrs Wilson. Following a full national recruitment exercise for this appointment the outstanding candidate was someone who will be well known to many across the School.

Headteacher

Having taught at Tranby from 2003-2021 and as both a parent of pupils who attend it and as an alumnus of the school, Mr Wainman very much feels like he is ‘coming home’ to Tranby in order to take up the Headship.

During his time at Tranby he held various leadership positions including Head of Sixth Form, Assistant Head, Deputy Head and Senior Deputy Head. He joins them from Silcoates School in Wakefield where he has been Headteacher for the past 4 years. During his time there, Mr Wainman has driven significant advancements in academic performance, pupil outcomes, and growth in pupil numbers.

Prior to his career in teaching, Mr Wainman was a business analyst for GMAP consulting. He studied Geography at the University of Leeds, Educational Leadership and Innovation at the University of Warwick and completed his qualification for Headship at University College, London.

Mr Wainman will take up post in September 2025. During the summer term, Mrs Cath Sweeting will be Acting Head of the Senior School as well as Head of the Prep School. She will provide the continuity and leadership in the transition period between Mrs Wilson and Mr Wainman.
