A specialist provider of accounts, tax, audit, payroll, financial planning and business advisory services, Smailes Goldie supports a diverse range of individual and business clients.

Wilfred Smailes commenced as a sole practitioner on 1st August 1899. In 1907 he joined forces with Ed Drury and WM Percival Holtby who were in practice together and then in 1912 Richard Gray joined as a fourth partner and the firm was named Smailes, Holtby & Gray.

It wasn’t until 1972 that Smailes Holtby & Gray merged with Goldie, Campbell & Robins and the firm was renamed Smailes Goldie & Co.

Since this inception, Smailes Goldie has grown from a single office to a multi-firm group, acquiring David Turner & Co in 2013, Moore Stephens in 2022 and JWP Creers Selby in 2024.

Fiercely loyal to the local area and its client base, the firm now operates from six offices across Yorkshire – Hull, Scarborough, Selby, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, and Barton upon Humber.

Now a leading firm in the area, Smailes Goldie is enjoying significant growth and enhancing training opportunities for young people, recently taking on 18 new trainees. The firm was also recently placed at number 6 in the Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers 2024.

Ian Lamb, Managing Partner at Smailes Goldie, said “This is a hugely exciting milestone which not a lot of firms have the opportunity to reach.

“Having personally joined the firm in 1977, I have been privileged to see it grow and watch individuals and teams evolve together.

“Congratulations to everyone who has worked to reach this fantastic milestone. Each and every colleague has demonstrated dedication and drive without which we wouldn’t have our stellar reputation for client care and a high level of service.

“We take our responsibility towards our clients and the local community seriously. As we reach our 125th anniversary, we’d also like to thank our clients for placing their trust in us and our expertise.

“Looking to our future, we look forward to fuelling further growth with training opportunities and ongoing development for the benefit of our clients and our people.”
