RSPCA Hull & East Riding Joins White Ribbon Campaign to Tackle Domestic Abuse

25 November 2024

RSPCA Hull & East Riding is proud to announce its commitment as a White Ribbon Supporter Organisation, demonstrating its dedication to addressing domestic abuse and promoting respectful relationships. This milestone aligns with our ongoing mission to protect vulnerable animals, recognising the critical link between animal cruelty and domestic abuse.

White Ribbon

White Ribbon is a global movement encouraging individuals, communities, and organisations to stand against violence against women and girls. By becoming a Supporter Organisation, RSPCA Hull & East Riding has pledged to actively raise awareness, support education initiatives, and promote positive social change.

The connection between domestic abuse and animal cruelty is well-documented, with abusers often harming pets to exert control over victims. By championing the White Ribbon campaign, we aims to highlight this issue and work collaboratively to break cycles of violence, offering vital support to both humans and animals in need.

The announcement coincides with White Ribbon Day Monday 25th November.

As part of our commitment we are inviting supporters and members of the community to a free special White Ribbon Presentation Session at our Animal Care Centre on Clough Road, Hull. The session will take place on Thursday, December 5, at 10:00 am, will educate attendees about the campaign's goals and practical steps to tackle domestic abuse. A brief tour of the Animal Care Centre will follow, showcasing the work done to rehabilitate, and rehome animals. RSPCA Hull & East Riding’s CEO and White Ribbon Ambassidor, Fred Owen commented: "We are proud to partner with the White Ribbon campaign and take a stand against domestic abuse. The link between animal cruelty and domestic violence is deeply concerning, and we are committed to addressing these issues. Through this partnership, we aim to create a safer community for both people and animals, raising awareness and promoting change."

The charity encourages all members of the community to speak out against domestic abuse in all its forms.
