October activities from the Culture House

This ongoing cultural programme presents national touring performances on ‘issues of our time’ while also offering educational, creative and well-being focussed activities to join in with.

First up on Monday 21 October, is Voices of the Future, a new project hosted in partnership with Freestyle Academy CIC, designed to give a platform to the next generation of creatives.

11 - 18 year olds are invited to book, to come along to Projekt Renewable for a session between 11am  - 4pm and participate in creating a new digital soundscape about Grimsby’s future.

As part of the session, there is a chance to learn about Grimsby's past through a 40 minute engaging heritage walk, moving into a workshop exploring and recording future thinking.

Participants will also learn new skills in DJing, music production and performance, whilst capturing audio and creating music for the Voices of the Future soundscape.

The session is free and includes a break for participants to bring their own lunch. Places are limited.

This youth-focussed activity followed by ‘feel good’ community singing event Sing Your Heart Out which will return to Grimsby Minster on Friday 25 October. The event features a fantastic musical line up including Eden Rae Lake, the Friendship at Home Choir and Skip of Fools - a local funk-based band performing popular hits. The audience is invited to let loose and join in at this free event when the Minster will offer refreshments and a bar.

The next day, on Saturday 26 October, national touring company Brain Fools will present their outdoor show Lucky Pigeons in St James’ Square at 11.30 and 2pm.

A free to access, skilled, circus-arts performance, Lucky Pigeons is a response to the company witnessing the dehumanisation of marginalised groups, such as homeless people and migrants. Though it is a fun and highly entertaining show, Brain Fools wanted to produce something that digs a little deeper into societal issues and that sparks some thought.

Using polished performance techniques, including stunning juggling and aerial tricks, the show follows a young businesswoman as she transforms from a corporate worker to a colourful pigeon, discovering a new world from a bird's eye view.

Lucky Pigeons captures the whirlwind of busy lives, blending storytelling, movement, and street arts for an unforgettable experience.
