New year, new Sustainable Palm Oil Champion: The Deep welcomes Elliott Hygiene as latest champion for Hull & East Yorkshire
17 January 2025
The Deep are delighted to welcome local business, Elliott Hygiene, as the latest Sustainable Palm Oil champion for the Hull & East Yorkshire region.
By the end of 2024, the organisation had completed their pledge, working alongside their key manufacturing and supply chain networks as well as the national buying network they belong to.
Elliott Hygiene will continue to conduct regular audits, ensuring that they continue with the highest standards of sustainability.
Palm oil is an incredibly versatile product, which is widely used around the world due to its low cost and efficiency in food, cosmetics, cleaning products and much more. It supplies 35% of the world’s vegetable oil from just 10% of the global land dedicated to oil crops. However, unsustainably produced palm oil is causing harm to the planet's wonderful rainforests, river systems and the species that call them home.
The Deep is committed to supporting a positive shift demand from non-sustainable to Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) in the Hull & East Yorkshire region. Continuing the fantastic work of their friends at Chester Zoo, working in partnership with AAK and Murdoch Associates, The Deep are looking to engage with local organisations to become champions or ambassadors for this important community initiative.
Katy Duke, Chief Executive Officer at The Deep, said:
“It’s been a great start to the New Year, as we welcome another Sustainable Palm Oil champion for the Hull & East Yorkshire region.”
“Elliott’s are a well-recognised organisation in the local area, so it’s a fantastic achievement to have them on-board as champions to help us in promoting the campaign across the region.”
“We look forward to working alongside many other Hull & East Yorkshire businesses in 2025, and hope more are inspired to take action to protect our planet by committing to make a change this year and beyond.”
Eleanor Evans, Deforestation-Free Campaigns Project Officer at Chester Zoo, said:
“We are absolutely delighted that Elliott's have joined as Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire's latest Sustainable Palm Oil Champion, and we hope their contribution to the project inspires even more organisations in the area to get involved and make a change to sustainable palm oil in their supply chains!”
Elliott’s are a Hull based family run business with a local workforce, supplying the Yorkshire area with cleaning, hygiene and janitorial supplies as well as catering disposables and tableware.
Charlotte Elliott, Marketing Manager at Elliott’s, said:
“We are committed to partnering with the Sustainable Palm Oil Community Project in Yorkshire and the Humber, and would like to pledge our support to The Deep with this initiative.”
“As a local business we are proud to be part of this project, and are looking forward to helping promote and create a more sustainable future through this community initiative. This in turn will protect our planet, ecosystems and global biodiversity from the impact of unsustainable agricultural practices for the benefit of future generations.”
