Humber news round up – May 19th 2023
19 May 2023
It’s been a very busy week in the Humber this last week. Here at Future Humber, we’ve been working hard preparing for our trip down to London for the Innovation Zero Congress, putting the finishing touches into our plans for our events for Humber Business Week, and sharing news from our Bondholders and our partners.
Here are some news stories from elsewhere around the Humber. Did you see any of these?
FROM ONE KIND OF SWIMMER.....
Hull hasn’t had a lido in a long time and if this summer turns out to be anything like 2022, then I’m sure that one would be appreciated and well used. It’s good news that the outdoor pool at Albert Avenue Pools that hasn’t been operational since the 1990s is re-opening after a multimillion refurb. Get the goggles out!
....TO ANOTHER.
Talking of bathing beauties, here’s the moment a seal chose Hull’s Victoria Dock as a good spot to take a breather and catch a few precious rays. The East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coast is well known as a haven for wildlife of all kinds and we are used to seeing seals at colonies in places such as Donna Nook. They don’t often come up this close to residential areas. We hope that this young seal found its way to wherever it was going.

MORE THAN BOOKS
This is a lovely story about a man from Hull who has saved his community thousands of pounds and done a great deal for saving the planet through setting up a “library of stuff”. You need a lawn mower? Sure. Looking for a film scanner? Naturally, he has one of those too.
This is amazing community work which no doubt has taken a lot of effort on his part. Well done, that man.

AND FINALLY, TELLING US SOMETHING WE ALREADY KNEW...
The Guardian puts in a visit to the Lincolnshire Wolds and is impressed, and rightly so. This year, the Wolds are celebrating 50 years of being a designated area of outstanding natural beauty by putting on some special events.
Cited as inspiration to the poet Tennyson – his father was rector of churches in the villages of Bag Enderby and Somersby – the Lincolnshire Wolds are declared as good as Yorkshire but without as many tourists. We are so fortunate to have something as beautiful and accessible as this on our doorstep.
