Humber Energy Board Launches ‘Delivering the Vision’ at Westminster

28 November 2024

The Humber Energy Board launched ‘Delivering the Vision: The Humber’s Roadmap for Industrial Decarbonisation’ on Tuesday 26th of November at a special lunch reception held in the Cholmondeley Room, House of Lords, Westminster.

HEB PRESENTATION 9

Hosted by The Baroness Redfern, the event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the Humber’s crucial role in the UK’s decarbonisation strategy. As the UK’s most carbon-intensive industrial cluster, the Humber must be at the heart of any plans to decarbonise the nation’s economy.

Over 120 guests attended, including MPs, regional leaders, business representatives, universities, media, and VIP guests – apprentices from businesses across the region who gathered to learn more about the collaboration between the Humber Energy Board and government.

The roadmap, a comprehensive strategy for the Humber’s journey towards net-zero, outlines the region’s approach to decarbonising power and industry, including the delivery of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, unlocking the potential of the low-carbon hydrogen sector, and removing barriers to expanding the Humber’s strength in offshore wind. This blueprint provides a clear pathway for government and industry to unlock £15bn in private sector investment, create thousands of jobs, and reignite the region’s industrial heartlands.

The Humber Energy Board emphasised that the region is at a pivotal moment, and that the achievement of the 2030 decarbonisation targets will require continued government support and strong partnerships with the private sector.

The Humber region is uniquely positioned to lead the UK’s transition to clean energy, and the roadmap sets out the necessary steps to deliver this vision, positioning the Humber as a global leader in sustainable energy. The Board encouraged all attendees to continue supporting and sharing the roadmap to accelerate progress towards the region’s decarbonisation and economic goals.

The Humber Energy Board thanked all guests for their support and underscored that the successful delivery of the roadmap is key to meeting the UK’s clean power targets by 2030 and driving sustainable economic growth across not only the Humber, but the UK
