Hull Truck Theatre raises £9,660 for Give the Gift of Theatre in 2024

21 January 2025

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we are thrilled to announce that our Give the Gift of Theatre campaign has raised an outstanding £9,660.35 across the 2024 festive season!

HTT give the gift of theatre

The campaign, aimed at bringing the magic of theatre to those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it, received an outpouring of support from both local audiences and theatre lovers alike.

Every donation, no matter the size, plays a vital role in ensuring that more people in Hull can experience the joy, inspiration, and connection that live performance brings.

As a result of your generosity, 1,000+ tickets were gifted by this campaign to local people living in financial hardship to see The Borrowers and Rapunzel this Christmas. In addition, 80 care homes were able to receive a streaming link of The Borrowers, with Queensgate Care Home (HU3) receiving an extra special personal visit as the theatre came to them, complete with their own tickets and an ice cream at the interval!

Your overwhelming kindness means we can continue to share the joy of a live theatre experience throughout the year.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who contributed to the campaign. Your support allows us to make a real difference to people in Hull, opening the doors of Hull Truck Theatre to even more people in our community.

For every single donor — your generosity is the gift that keeps on giving!”

Janthi Mills-Ward, Executive Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said:

“The overwhelming support for the Give the Gift of Theatre this year encapsulated the spirit of the festive season. Because of our kind audiences many magical memories were created, and we look forward to another year of creating more joyous live theatre experiences for people in our community. Every single donation that supports our mission to make theatre more accessible is truly appreciated, thank you to our audiences for making this possible through supporting our work and, more importantly, our city.”

St. George’s Primary School said:

“A huge thank you for the gift of theatre tickets for our year 6 class. We had 31 children with us and for 21 of them it was their first ever theatre experience. Watching their reactions and excitement was so lovely, we had children literally sat on the edge of their seats. Some of them didn't realise the interval was not the end and were so happy when they found out there was a second half.”

We are especially grateful to have received the support of businesses such as Unite the Union and Lloyds Bank for both contributing £500 to the campaign.
