Give the Gift of Theatre with Hull Truck Theatre this Christmas

Give the Gift of Theatre raises money which goes directly towards gifting and subsidising theatre tickets to local young people, schools, groups and families, who otherwise would be unable to attend the theatre. 

Hull Truck Theatre is a proud community hub for the residents of the city, enriching people’s lives through the power of art and culture, both through important outreach work in communities and by presenting high-quality work on-stage. Many residents within the city face barriers to arts attendance, including financial pressures. Donations from audiences and the general public will open the door to theatre for these people, helping create cherished lifelong memories and a connection to the arts as well as inspiring future generations to discover and learn the value of theatre and community.

The giving campaign has been running for the last 11 years, and so far, enabling thousands of theatre tickets to be gifted to children, young people and families across the city. 

Janthi Mills-Ward, Executive Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said: 

“We delighted to be bringing back our Christmas appeal for 2024! By donating just £10, you could be giving someone the opportunity to visit the theatre, possibly for the very first time. As a charity ourselves, we wouldn’t be able to continue to do the important outreach work in the local communities without the support of donations from the public. 

“Money raised will not only help fund tickets for Christmas performances but can make an impact all year round, making theatre more accessible for everyone in Hull. We are excited to share our fantastic upcoming productions with our audience, perfect for school pupils of all ages to attend and experience the magic of live theatre.”

Over 1,000 people visited Hull Truck Theatre last year to enjoy the festive production of Pinocchio. This included 18 school groups, who without access to the scheme would otherwise have been unable to attend.

School pupil, Year 4, Supported by Give The Gift 2023, said: 

“Thank you so much. It was the best experience I have ever had in my life. My favourite character was Pinocchio because they were funny.”
