Empowering Eco Heroes in Hull & East Yorkshire
1 November 2024
There are many children in Hull and East Yorkshire live in homes without gardens and attend schools with limited outdoor space. As a result, their opportunities to engage with the outdoors and learn about the environment are often restricted.
In response, Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University (HEY CU) has launched exciting new Eco Experience Days designed to change this situation. These experiences provide children with the opportunity to become Eco Heroes as they explore gardens, woodlands, and greenhouses. Through hands-on activities, children will learn about sustainability and their impact on the planet, discovering how they can implement meaningful changes at school and home to lead more sustainable lives. Additionally, the children will be introduced to environmental careers, inspiring them to consider their future aspirations.
On October 30th, HEY CU welcomed partners and supporters to its new Eco Hub at Thwaite Gardens in Cottingham. Generously provided by the University of Hull, this beautiful facility is set to benefit not only the children but also businesses aiming to meet their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. The Eco Hub activities align with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the commitment of supporting businesses to sustainability through various tasks delivered by HEY CU.
For those interested in learning more about the Eco Hub and how their business can help inspire thousands of children to become passionate Eco Heroes, please contact Sarah Brodie, HEY CU Partnership Manager, at s.brodie2@hull.ac.uk.
