Wild LIVE: Could nature be our best flood defence?

Live panel discussion from the Wildlife Trusts.
Join the next in The Wildlife Trusts’ Wild LIVE series at the University of Hull on 18 March. Hear from experts and take part in the discussion about how we can best balance flood resilience and habitats for wildlife and people. Perhaps there is no conflict, and nature might be our ‘best flood defence’?!
Wild LIVE is a series of monthly discussions hosted by The Wildlife Trusts. They aim to provide a space for reasoned discussion on the important issues relating to wildlife, the natural world and people’s relationship with it.
The Hull Wild LIVE event will explore some of the many benefits – for people and nature – of natural flood management, with the aim of informing the conversation about how we can scale up this response to the increasing flood risk.
The discussion will be chaired by The Wildlife Trusts’ Chief Executive, Craig Bennett. On the panel are:
- Rachael Bice - Chief Executive of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
- Eleanor Heron - Natural Flood Management Manager at the Environment Agency
- Craig Monks - National Flood Claims Co-ordinator at RSA Insurance
- Mike Morris - Technical Director at Stantec.
The University of Hull’s Prof Stuart McLelland will welcome guests to the event and will also host a 4pm tour of the SuDSlab campus-wide ‘living lab’ for Sustainable Drainage Systems. The tour will include lots of examples of how the University manages surface water on campus, while creating a beautiful environment to live and work. Why not join the tour at 4pm, chat over pre-drinks in the bar at 5pm and join the main event at 6pm?
