On Wednesday 26th of February, professionals from across the Humber region came together for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Offshore Training Centre (OTC) in Grimsby. This unique Industry Insight event provided a rare opportunity to explore the vital training and operations that underpin the offshore energy sector, offering attendees first-hand experience of the essential skills required to thrive in such a high-stakes environment.
The event kicked off with an introduction to OTC’s critical role in preparing individuals for offshore challenges. From safety protocols to technical expertise, OTC’s training programmes are designed to ensure that the workforce is fully equipped to operate safely and efficiently in offshore environments.
A highlight of the day was the hands-on demonstrations. Participants had the chance to take part in practical activities such as ‘Entry into the Water and Climbing into a Life Raft,’ providing a glimpse into the crucial water survival techniques that offshore workers must master. Another interactive session focused on using fire extinguishers, giving attendees a valuable, practical skill relevant to emergency response situations.
OTC experts provided in-depth insights into the centre’s cutting-edge training programmes, highlighting the centre’s commitment to maintaining safety standards and workforce readiness. These programmes cover a range of critical skills, including water survival, emergency response, and technical training for offshore operations, all designed to ensure that the Humber region’s offshore energy industry remains a global leader in safety and innovation.
We were also delighted to welcome five Year 11 students from Healing Academy, all eager and enthusiastic about exploring future careers in the offshore sector. Their curiosity and interest in the industry were evident throughout the day, and it was fantastic to see the next generation engaging with the practical skills and knowledge that will shape the future of offshore energy. It’s inspiring to know that these young individuals are already thinking ahead to careers in such a dynamic and rapidly-growing sector.
The Offshore Training Centre in Grimsby continues to be a key player in the Humber region’s industrial ecosystem. By equipping individuals with the skills needed to succeed in offshore energy, OTC plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the sector.
