The annual Scunthorpe Christmas Lights Switch On is taking place on Saturday 23 November, with street theatre, magic shows, hot food vendors, music and song – and not forgetting the big switch on at 5.30pm with our very own Dame Annie Fanny.

The fun starts at midday on the High Street with the Grinch, life-size gingerbread men, an elf stilt walker, a clockwork ballerina and a Victorian Christmas magic show entertaining shoppers.

There will also be circus skills workshops and Back Chat Brass will be storming through the town playing Christmas tunes.

Walkabout puppets Hodman and Sally will be in the crowd and don’t miss the massive walking, talking stockings – fantastic for selfies.

Entertainment starts on the community stage at 2pm, hosted by glamorous Mrs Christmas.

Local theatre and community groups will all be performing – including the phenomenal Baths Hall Vocal Collective.

The main stage opens at 4pm, where the Snow Sisters will be singing songs from Frozen and local boy Henry Bradshaw will be showcasing his amazing voice with a selection of Christmas tunes.

Back Chat Brass will give a Christmas performance that will get everyone in the mood for the festive season and set the stage for Annie Fanny, the panto cast and special guests.

The big countdown starts at 5.29pm ready for the big switch on at 5.30pm, when a snow machine will blast out across Church Square.

To round the evening off, Mrs Christmas will lead a festive singalong to get everyone going home full of Christmas cheer.

Food vendors will be selling hot chocolate, pancakes and waffles, burgers and German sausage hotdogs.

Scunthorpe Central library will be holding activities throughout the afternoon, including children’s crafts, a Victorian choir, a face painter and a Snow White escape room. There will also be a quiet room available.

2021 Visual Arts Centre is also running craft events and activities and will be launching their Christmas café menu.

Entertainment will also be taking place at St John’s Market, including children’s entertainment, live music, a Letters To Santa station and a chance to meet Santa and Mrs Claus at the Christmas grotto.

More entertainment is being added all the time – for latest details and for pre-bookable activities, make sure to follow the council Facebook page
