Founded in Hull in 1874, the rich maritime activity afforded by the Humber Estuary laid the foundations for a business built on shipping, fishing and maritime law.

Passing decades since Andrew Marvell Jackson first established the practice have seen it grow significantly, operating nationally and internationally, while investing significantly in the Humber and its hinterland.

While many clients remain in the maritime sphere, and the freeport designation has provided added impetus on the estuary, offices in Hull, Grimsby, York and Scarborough cover every area of business, including new sectors that have emerged with locational advantages at the fore.

Renewables is one such example, where experience and expertise in property and maritime law has evolved to the extent that Andrew Jackson now has an established team working with businesses across the green energy supply chain.

Offshore wind’s burgeoning deployment in the past 15 years, with the Humber as the leading UK cluster, is one such specialism, with strands of law united to serve the sector.

Yachting and aviation are also strong niches, with the former closely tied to the head office location. The Marina Court development by Andrew Jackson was an early investment in the Fruit Market area that has seen a radical transformation over the past decade, bringing life back to a location with a strong commercial heritage, while maximising the water frontage. Completed ahead of City of Culture celebrations and the wider zone’s emergence as a place to work, live and play, the firm positioned itself as a flagbearer heralding a new era for Hull and the wider region. It remains a strong supporter of cultural and business events, with Freedom Festival, Humber Business Week and The Business Day particular highlights.

“Marking 150 years of providing invaluable business advice and advocacy is an incredible source of pride for the entire team. In an ever-changing world, there is much to be said for quality and consistency, maintaining a trusted brand, while innovating and embracing what comes next. We work hard every day to deliver on that.  Our roots are, and always will be, here in this region. The Humber is thriving and that’s great for us and many of our clients.”

With a relaxing of regulations, legal services are now being delivered in different ways. Lower cost, commoditised services are becoming more readily available from providers who aren't solicitors. Experience and quality advice, together with individually packaged solutions, enables Andrew Jackson to help clients solve problems, tailoring services to them and their commercial and personal needs. A client-centric approach based on delivering unrivalled legal expertise is what Andrew Jackson always endeavours to deliver, and this focus has enabled it to maintain and grow the client base throughout major changes in the legal sector.

Andrew Jackson views positive customer feedback as the best performance indicator. The team pays close attention to the annual legal publication and ranking, Legal 500. Exclusively voted for by clients, Andrew Jackson’s continued success reinforces that individual team members, departments, and the business as a whole, delivers on its promise of offering a service which is both professional and personable.

As a company Andrew Jackson has very strong roots in the Humber region, and is committed to not only recruiting the best talent, but also ensuring it is retained. From new graduates to partner-level appointments, the highest calibre staff are sought, with pride and value in finding these people locally, while also attracting bright minds to the area to build a life and career.

Andrew Jackson also works, wherever possible, with local suppliers, many of whom are part of the Bondholders network. As a company, it values supporting other local businesses, working together to compete on a national or global level.

Andrew Jackson has always been at the heart of the business sector in this region, and it has been fantastic to see such dynamic growth and continued innovation here - over recent years.

Our region has proven its credentials over the past decade, emerging as a vibrant, well-connected place with purpose, where significant private sector investment has been welcomed – much of which has been provided by businesses and clients we’re proud to represent.
